One thing you can try is to look up other motherboards from Asus that came with the saem card, and see if they have added the updated drivers for that board. I too am having that problem and also need help. Maybe even trying 16bit instead of 24bit.
The led in the card does light up. It is always best to remove any previously installed SoundMAX driver from the system before installing a new driver.

The QFE contains the required files and a readme which outlines installation procedure.
On Windows Vista the Microsoft audio function driver installs by default. Give it a try. If I start the X-Fi it cannot see the sound crosshhair and neither can Soundmax.

I used the onboard for a while aaudio power my headphones – my Creative X-Fi card blows it out of the water. The only ones found are ‘Soundmax’ and the Soundblaster X-Fi’ utility.
On boot into WinXP the banner comes up ‘The soundmax driver didn’t load.

For windows Xp X64 No drivers are released till date as for Windows Xp32bit, so i pray that this case should not turn up with vista or else in will go crazy. I installed the Realtek drivers and everything is much better now, the sound is incredibly good now!
Have you tried playing with audio frequency settings as mentioned at the end of the article? I do have the card in the top slot on my motherboard people have had issues using other slots. I’ve got the latest ‘soundmax’ drivers from the asus website and tried to force install that driver for the “hd audio device” in device manager.

A Software package from Creativ Soundblaster is bought and included bringing: I did not think this motherboard had onboard sound, but this description led me to believe so. I couldn’t find any vista drivers at all for my soundmax card.
